Sunlight for the Soul

ree

When November rolls in and the daylight hours shorten, many of us in Michiana start to feel the shift. Gray skies stretch on for days, and our bodies quietly register what is missing: vitamin D, the sunshine vitamin. It supports bones, boosts immunity, and even lifts mood. Without it, fatigue and sadness can creep in, reminding us that we were designed to need light.

The same is true spiritually. Just as our skin absorbs sunlight to produce vitamin D, our souls absorb the presence of God to produce peace, hope, and endurance. Without His light, the spirit grows weary.

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?”Psalm 27:1

Our bodies crave sunlight, and our souls crave the Son’s light. That is no coincidence. God built physical reminders into creation to point us back to Himself. When the clouds hang low, He calls us to find warmth in His Word and fellowship with others who reflect His light.

“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”Proverbs 27:17

Vitamin D keeps the body strong, but community keeps the spirit steady. Both are nourishment. When we gather over coffee, worship, or even a quick phone call, we exchange the spiritual nutrients of encouragement and empathy.

If winter feels heavy this year, take a walk when the sun peeks through. Let the light remind you that your body and your spirit were made for connection.

“In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.”John 1:4

May we seek His light daily, absorb it deeply, and shine it generously until the clouds break and spring returns again.
